Social Media Roundup: Historic Flash Floods in Norwood June 28

6/29/2020

On Sunday, June 28, 2020, Norwood experienced torrential rain and flash floods due to summer storms. Below is a roundup of a few of the posts from local businesses that highlight the power of the storm, the damage, and the strength of the Town's response.

Lewis' and Daddy's Dairy caught video footage of the flooding on Cottage Street.

Norwood Town Manager Tony Mazzucco documented the emergency response from local police, fire, the DPW and Norwood Light Broadband.

Doesn’t matter what gets thrown at us, Norwood continue to rise above the challenges. 2020 hasn’t been easy, but I think of some lines from Douglas Malloch “good timber does not grow with ease, the stronger the wind the tougher the trees”. Always amazed by the dedication of @norwoodpolice @norwood_fire_department @norwood_dpw @norwoodlightbroadband and all the town employees keeping us safe during times like this. Special thanks to the many neighboring communities who responded to a challenging call like a hospital evac during a terrible storm and flooding. Also always thankful for all the residents moving branches and clearing storm drains. (And the folks in south Norwood who decided against taking pictures of the town manager falling on his ass in knee high water moving a branch). 2020 may be a struggle, but I didn’t hear no bell! We’ve got this Norwood!

Custom Art Framing sustained significant damage due to the flooding.

Due to the historic nature of this flash flood, the Norwood Historical Society put out a call for community members to submit photos and videos to document this moment in history.
