Happy New Year from Friends of Norwood Center!  FNC is a non-profit formed nearly a decade ago by committed residents and local businesses to provide organization and support to Norwood businesses to help build community and make Norwood Center the attractive destination we know it will be.

At the annual meeting held in December at local business NextHome Signature Realty, Charlotte Walsh, owner of Charles River Running at 679 Washington Street, was elected Friends of Norwood Center’s new President.

Charlotte hails from Wisconsin and has lived in many states and worn as many professional hats before settling in Islington and embarking on her business, Charles River Running.  A veteran (along with two of her three children who have followed in her footsteps), Charlotte is passionate about creating vibrant, engaging and sustainable communities for everyone.  She began her work with Norwood Center as a board member of the Downtown Steering committee 7 years ago, and has been an active Board member with Friends of Norwood Center for several years.

“As a Norwood Center business owner, I am excited to work with this board to help shape the future of Norwood Center’s economic landscape, be an advocate for our small businesses and build on our strong relationship with the community,” said Walsh.  She continued, “With the involvement of more local business owners and all members of the Norwood community who are interested in the future of Norwood Center, together, we can continue to strengthen our downtown for all to enjoy.”

2019 was a year of community building and fact-finding for the Friends of Norwood Center.  Walsh heralded the accomplishments of Friends of Norwood Center and is excited about the future:
  • A 16 week, seasonal Farmer’s Market on the Town Common brought locals and people beyond our community to support local farmers and vendors and enjoy weekly entertainment and cooking  demonstrations
  • A robust and record setting Small Business Saturday in Norwood Center continued the partnership between FNC and the Norwood Recreation Department to combine a daylong event in the Center, bringing families and residents downtown to shop, recreate and celebrate the coming holidays
  • In conjunction with Norwood Community Media, executed a fun video highlighting Norwood businesses

In closing, Ms. Walsh states, “Our new Friends of Norwood Center board has already been hard at work setting some exciting goals for 2020 and developing a clear mission for the organization. We fully recognize the opportunities and challenges faced by the business community as Norwood continues to grow and expand. Our goals are to continue our work with the supportive town leadership, businesses – both new and existing - and residents to create a vibrant and exciting center that is accessible and relevant to all.  Please join us!”
